WAI 1018 Claimants Apihaka Tamati/Pirikawau Mullen-Mack and Marama (Rhonda) Mullen signed the application to receive Waitangi Tribunal Claims Legal Aid. Marama and Apihaka have a responsibility to ensure this money is used to benefit registered Ngātiawa Iwi beneficiaries. To-date we have received a six-figure sum for our Kahangungu-Ngati Toa barrister David Stone to manage WAI 1018 legal responsibilities.
This pays for Waitangi Tribunal Judicial Conference representation, and Hearing money does not get deducted from final Claims Settlement with the Office of Treaty Settlements. However, if we decided to go into direct negotiations, our barrister can quadruple his fees, which he could obtain millions of dollars. This will be deducted from the final claims cash settlement to the IWI. Our, story will NOT BE TOLD, this in turn will reduce compensation for the injustices OUR TUPUNA ENDURED AND CONTEMPORARY INJUSTICES tolerated by the living.
DIRECT NEGOTIATIONS: The government can pay out a quick cash fix with no responsibility. Recipients of this direct negotiations cash settle for a THIRD of what IWI members are entitled to through a Waitangi Tribunal Hearing Process. The Barrister gets rich, negotiations terms are reduced, the government saves cash - laughing, IWI and Mokopuna NO BETTER OFF IN THE FUTURE!
WAI 1018 CLAIMANTS: Received a further incentive from Legal Aid due to the breaching our rights, by not paying our barrister. This interfered with WAI 1018 claim having fair representation. An emergency WAI claim was filed to Waitangi Tribunal in 2012. Legal Aid Crown Counsel found Legal Aid guilty. Hence, we have extra money to have 15 years worth of personal research critically analysed by 4 barristers, a solicitor and historian. We also received a 5-figure sum for Koro - Dr Huirangi Waikerepuru Q.S.M and Te Matahiapo Research to translate old Maori Taranaki dialect writings by Pirikawau. http://www.tematahiapo.org/about-us/
Ngātiawa Iwi is in a unique position due to the forced exile of our tupuna and maintenance of the exile from 1847 to 2015 by government allies and entities.
